ICC Increases Prize Money For 2017 Champions Trophy Winners 1

As the mega event of the ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales is just seventeen days away, the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council on Sunday has increased and detailed out the prize money amount for the winners of the coveted title of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy while making a significant addition to the much-awaited upcoming tournament.

The tournament has the total prize of USD 4.5 million whereas, the winner of the tournament will fetch the staggering amount of USD 2.2 million following the announcement from the ICC based out in Dubai.

However, following the striking similarities, this edition will also be played at three venues which include The Oval, Edgbaston and Cardiff Stadium in Wales.

When the title was lifted in 2013 by Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Indian against England, the visitors earned USD 2 million as the prize money which was also the highest amount since the inception of the knock-out based 50-over tournament.

Moreover, in this season, ICC has further increased the amount of USD 500,000.

Adding much to the tournament, ICC has also kept the amount of USD 1.1 million as prize money for runners-up as the two semi-finalists are supposed to receive USD 450,000 respectively.

The teams which will finish at the third spot in both the groups are expected to earn USD 90,000 followed by USD 60,000 to teams which will finish at the bottom of the table in Group A and Group B respectively.

The eight-team tournament will kick-off from June 1 as hosts England will face Bangladesh in a Group A match at The Oval.

The ICC statement has further revealed the schedule pressers for players which will further take place prior to the 18-day world cricket carnival.

The media conference will kick off as Australian skipper Steven Smith will address the gathering on May 24 (Wednesday), in Lord’s Museum.

On May 25, the skippers of New Zealand, Sri Lanka and defending champions will hold a press conference at The Grange Hotel in London after Sir Ronnie Flanagan, who is the chairman of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), will speak to the media persons.

On May 26, Sarfraz Ahmed will hold a press conference alongside Bangladesh Counterpart Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will address the media at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Before their training on 31 May, England skipper Eoin Morgan will speak to the media gathering at The Oval followed by South African skipper AB de Villiers on June 2 at the same venue.
