ICC ODI Rankings: India’s loss is big gain for Bangladesh

As expected, Team India has dropped 2 points but they have been able to retain their 2nd position in the latest ICC ODI Team Rankings after their poor performance resulting in a 1-2 series loss to Bangladesh yesterday. Now Bangladesh has moved upwards by 1 place to stay 7th after their historic series victory over a much better team India. The 3-match ODI series completed on Wednesday (June 24) at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.

This series win has enabled Bangladesh to reach 93 ratings points which means that they are five points behind 6th-ranked England and also five points ahead of eighth-ranked West Indies.

Now the equation is such that Team England, plus seven next highest-ranked sides (as on 30 September 2015) will qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

Bangladesh, having advantage of defeating India, now look all set to qualify ahead of the West Indies, which has no One-Day International (ODI) series planned until the 30th September, and Pakistan which plays Sri Lanka in a five-ODI series next month.

Bangladesh started the series in 8th position on 88 points, just a fraction of a point behind the West Indies. However, the current results mean only 28 points separate second-ranked India from ninth-ranked Pakistan. However, World champions Australia lead the field and is sitting pretty on 129 points.
