Australia tops the newly released ICC test rankings but India could reach the top position if they win the fourth test against West Indies in the ongoing series.
Pakistan and England are currently in third and fourth positions respectively as they squared off the ongoing test series with 2-2. Pakistan currently have 111 rating points and England have 108 rating points.
Sri Lanka who are currently playing Australia at home, leading by 2-0 will have to win the ongoing test and India should lose the next test match with West Indies for Pakistan to reach the top spot in the ICC rankings for the first time since 2003.
Pakistan’s highest ever ranking was second when they clinched a test series win against England last year at UAE.
However, India has the best chance of becoming the No.1 test ranking side as they have their destiny in their own hands. Considering the form of India in the ongoing series against West Indies, it might not be very difficult for the Indians to tame West Indies once again in the final test.
Scenarios to reach/stay at No.1:
Australia – Australia need to win the current Colombo Test and expect West Indies to win or draw Port of Spain Test
India– India need to win Port of Spain Test
Pakistan – Sri Lanka and West Indies need to win or draw Colombo and Port of Spain Tests, respectively
