India’s new bowling sensation Jasprit Bumrah has risen to his career best ranking, as he breaks into the top five bowlers list in the ICC rankings.
Bumrah made major contributions in India’s 5-0 win over Sri Lanka in the recently-concluded ODI’s. Bumrah made a giant leap and gained 27 ranks to move to the fourth spot in the rankings released by ICC on Monday

Bumrah was the man of the series, as he scalped 15 wickets in five ODI’s; this is the highest by any bowler in a five-match bilateral series in ODI history. It also included a five wicket haul in the third ODI.
Bumrah is now just behind Josh Hazlewood, Imran Tahir and Mitchell Starc in the rankings. The 23-year-old bowler from Gujarat has become India’s number one choice in the One Day format. His lethal Yorkers have bamboozled batsmen since his entry in the international arena.
Bumrah was not the only bowler to have made a mark in the series; another Indian made his entry into the top 10. Axar Patel moved ten places in the rankings and jumped to the 10th spot in the rankings. Axar picked up six wickets in four ODI’s he played. He is one spot lower than his career high ranking. He was ranked ninth in October in 2016.
Patel made a comeback to the Indian team in the series against Sri Lanka, as Ravindra Jadeja was rested for the ODI series. Other Indian bowlers who gained points from the series in Sri Lanka were Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Pandya moved up two places to 61, whereas, Yadav made a big jump and moved up by 21 places to 89 in the rankings, and despite leaping 55 places, Chahal is still placed at the 99th spot.
