The international season in cricket that saw the likes of England, Sri Lanka, Australia, West Indies and South Africa all busy with respective tournaments has had an interesting effect on the ICC world rankings.
India, which is yet to play a test match after the World T20 earlier this year played just the 3 ODIs in Zimbabwe and victories in all the three matches has seen them maintain their 3rd place in the ICC rankings for countries in ODI cricket.
The rankings that were released on Sunday saw Australia maintain their position at the top after an impressive tour of the Caribbean.
They are on 123points, 13 away from the Men in Blue and 10 away from the Men in Black from New Zealand in the second place.
The Black Caps are yet to play international cricket after the World T20 and are just 3 points away from India, which can change with the results in India’s tour to the Caribbean.
South Africa’s disappointment in the tri-series in West Indies has seen them drop 2-points to equal India at 110 points. They are ranked 4th only on decimal points.
England are on the 5th place 4 points away from South Africa while Sri Lanka are 6th on 102 points after their performances in the UK recently.
West Indies at 8th were the biggest gainers as they managed to add 6 points to their previous tally taking a 7 point advantage over Pakistan in 9th place.
South Africa’s AB de Villiers continued to dominate the rankings for batsmen as he stays at the 1st place, 74 points away from Virat Kohli in second place.
Kohli who is on 813 points is one of three Indians in the top 10 batsmen in ODI.
Rohit Sharma at 6th and Shikhar Dhawan at 8th are the other two Indian batsmen who made it into the top 10 batsmen according to the ICC.
Amla, Williamson, Guptill, and Root also maintained their place in the ODI rankings.
In bowlers, Sunil Narine, the wily offie from the Caribbean has maintained his place at the top of the table.
Trent Boult is 28 points away from Narine in 2nd place while Sakib al Hasan, Imran Tahir, and Mitchell Starc occupied the next three places in the rankings.
None of the players from India managed to get into the top 10 list for bowlers but R Ashwin and Axar Patel managed to bag the 11th and 12th spot respectively in the rankings.
Ravindra Jadeja, India’s preferred all-rounder was ranked 9th in the list of all-rounders for ODIs.
This list was topped by Bangladesh star Sakib al Hasan with Mohammad Hafeez and Angelo Mathews close behind him.
