There is hardly any doubt about the fact that gentleman’s game cricket is not a global sport. It is only played seriously by a handful of countries. However, as per reports from the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC), it is being learnt that 87% of fans want T20 cricket to become an Olympic Sport.
So much so, Cricket also played a part during the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London.
Taking to Twitter handle Dubai-based ICC wrote, “Did you know that cricket played a role in the opening ceremony of the 2012 London games? According to our research, 87% of fans want T20 cricket to become an Olympic sport! Would you like to see cricket at the @Olympics?.
It will be a huge moment for all the cricketing fans across the cricketing world.
The inclusion of Cricket as an Olympic sport was supported by many former cricketers. However, there is no denying the fact that it is still in the process of growing between other countries.
ICC recently minimized the number of World Cup teams to just 10.

It was a move which didn’t go down well with the Associate countries. After this move, the globalization of cricket has taken a backseat. To make it a global sport there is no doubt about the fact that the ICC must start including more teams to the world events rather than restricting their appearance to only One-off ties.

Australia is the current holders of the World Cup:
The ICC Cricket World Cup is slated to be held in England and Wales. next year. Australia is the current holders of the tournament.
However, given their horrendous runoff late, it looks highly unlikely that the defending champions will go on to lift the title for the record sixth time.
England, on the other hand, is one of the top contenders to lift the title for the first time in their history.
Meanwhile, India will be starting their United Kingdom (UK) on Wednesday (June 22) against the Ireland side in the two-match T20 series. They will directly head to England from here for the start of three One-day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals.
After a gap of two weeks, the two big teams will lock horns in a five-match Test series.
