England seamer James Anderson reprimanded by the ICC as he showed dishonor Indian umpire S Ravi’s decision to give Rangana Herath not out on the third day of the Lord’s Test against Sri Lanka.
Anderson has breached the Level 1 Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.”
ICC sanctioned him for the offence from the match referee Andy Pycroft so there is no need for a hearing.
The incident occurred during Sri Lanka’s seventh wicket stand between Kusal Perera and Rangana Herath when Ravi told Anderson, who had become frustrated, not to sledge Herath. The umpire was seen talking to Joe Root who was captain the side as Alastair Cook was absent during the incident after receiving a blow to the knee which forced him to the hospital for an x-ray.
The charge was laid by the on-field umpires, Ravi and Rod Tucker, as well as third umpire Aleem Dar and fourth umpire Michael Gough.
All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of a warning/reprimand and/or the imposition of a fine of up to 50% of the applicable match fee.
Sri Lanka has lost the first two matches but England had toil hard to beat them. The Sri Lankan team is going through the transition phase after they are great like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene retired from cricket. Sangakkara is playing county cricket for Surrey in England.
