ICC T20 Ranking: India slipped to dismal 6th position
As India lost the T20 series against South Africa there are a few changes happened on the ICC T20 ranking list. Two consecutive T20 matches lose to South Africa made India to slip into 6th position while South Africa advanced to 5th position.
The World T20 is just 6 months away, but India’s dismal performance rang the alarm bell. Selector’s have to think about it. India since the 2014 World T20 played only five T20s so far. Before the South Africa series, India played against England and Zimbabwe. England won the one off T20 while India failed to win the series against Zimbabwe even after getting the series lead.
So, India lost two consecutive series and managed only one draw and that was against shaky Zimbabwe.
Currently Sri Lanka is the numero uno team in the ICC T20 ranking. They have 126 rating points in 15 matches while Pakistan hold the second position with a rating points 121 in 24 matches.
Pakistan recently won the T20 series against Zimbabwe while Australia, who lost one and won one during their in Britain ranked 3rd.
Meanwhile, West Indies, who failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy scheduled in England in 2017, have better ranking than their Test and ODI’s. Their current ranking is 4th. No wonder, West Indies will be a formidable force in the 2016 World T20 in India as the Caribbean team has destructive batsmen like Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels and Darren Sammy in their ranks.
Among the other well known teams, New Zealand and England are yet to prepare for the World T20 2016. England, the 2010 champion are standing above war torn Afghanistan while New Zealand with 108 rating points are standing at 7th position.
The other two Test playing nations, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are yet to surpass the hurdle created by associate countries. Bangladesh are standing at 10th position behind Afghanistan while Zimbabwe’s name has come after Hong Kong, Scotland and Netherlands. In the list of the top 15 teams Ireland stand at the bottom.
