Fraser Jones blew away Bangladesh, taking five for 32 as South Africa thrashed the Asian country by eight wickets to finish fifth in the ICC Under19 World Cup.

Bangladesh were folded up for a modest total of 178, before South Africa chased down the total in 38.3 overs.

The writing was very much on the wall for Bangladesh as early as the tenth over when their top-order was completely dismantled by Jones.

The decision to bat first turned to be a nightmare for Bangladesh as they were reduced to 33 for 5 inside 9 overs.

Jones was the destructor-in-chief, picking up three of the five wickets which fell the other two went to Akhona Mnyaka as South Africa took command of the proceedings in Queenstown.

Afif Hossain (63 off 59) and Shakil Hossain (61) then began the resurrection work. Mixing caution with aggression, the duo steadied the ship to take the team to 129. However, just when it looked Bangladesh are set for a good total,  Mnyaka jolted them by dismissing Afif Hossain to end the 96-run stand.

With the partnership broken, Shakil took the onus on himself – to guide his team to a challenging total.

However, with very little support from the lower-order batsmen, he could not continue the fight for long, eventually becoming the ninth wicket to fall when the scoreboard read 169.

With the bowlers doing their job brilliantly, it was now up to the batsmen to complement their effort and the South Africa batsmen did it in style.

The African colts made a cautious start before Qazi Onik dismissed Jiveshan Pillay for 12. Matthew Breetzke (36) and skipper Raynard van Tonder then added 34 runs for the second wicket.

South Africa 180 for 2 (Raynard van Tonder 82*) beat Bangladesh 178 for 10 (Afif Hossain 63, Shakil Hossain 61, Fraser Jones 5-32) lost to  by eight wickets.
