What Harmanpreet Kaur dished out at Derby today, it could easily inspire millions of girls across India to take up cricket as a genuine career. It was a display of classy destruction, as the ever experienced Kaur, having played the women’s Big Bash League Down Under, turned it on against the Australian women. In a game that was curtailed to 42 overs a side, Kaur played the most sensational knock in the history of women’s cricket.
Joining skipper Mithali Raj in the 10th over, with the score reading 35-2, Kaur took her time and the stand between the two resurrected the innings. Once she was set, the batter began demolishing the Southern Stars across Derby as no bowler seemed potent enough against the powerful strikes of Kaur.
En route her historic 115 ball knock of 171, Kaur went on to break several world records. Her knock was so outstanding, that it prompted several pundits to call it among the finest innings the sport has ever witnessed.
Post the victory and with India in the final against England, Kaur mentioned that when the side departed for England, the initial aim was to make it to the semis.
“Firstly, I am feeling proud. My innings was only worth because they were restricted. I’m looking forward to the finals,” said Kaur.
“England is a good side and we will definitely give them a fight. It’s always good when you score runs for your team and I’m very happy. When we started from Mumbai, we were thinking of reaching the Semi-finals and now we are here. I would like to thank the support staff and all the fans for their support,” said Kaur.
