ICC Women's World Cup 2017: Rohit Sharma Lauds India Women's Team After Win Over Pakistan 1

The background:

Continuing its red-hot form in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, India’s women team thrashed Pakistan by 95 runs to register its third win on the trot.

Mithali Raj’s decision to bat first completely backfired as India’s in-form batters could not replicate their performances of the last two matches and managed to put up just 169 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. India went off to a disastrous start when their in-form opener Smriti Mandhana was sent back by Diana Baig for just 2. A 67-run stand between Punam Raut and Deepti Sharma steadied the ship for a while but the floodgates opened when the former was dismissed by Nashra Sandhu. After Raut’s dismissal, India kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were reeling at 111 for 6 before a 35-ball 33 runs knock from Sushma Verma propelled them to over 150.

The 169-run score, however, turned out to be enough in the end as Mithali Raj & Co. bowled out Pakistan for a paltry 74. Ekta Bisht was the chief architect of the comprehensive victory with outstanding figures of 5 for 18 in her 10 overs. Barring Nahida Khan (23) and skipper Sana Mir (29), none of the Pakistani players could cross the double digit mark as they suffered their third consecutive defeat in the tournament.

The story:

The Indian women’s team has been garnering praise from all over for yet another impressive performance and Team India opener Rohit Sharma has also lauded the team for the brilliant performance. Rohit, who is currently out of action, took to Twitter to congratulate the team.

“Woah!!! Brilliant performance by our women’s cricket team, way to go. Congratulations!! @BCCIWomen,” the India opener tweeted.
