With less than 24 hours to go for the huge clash against Australia at Auckland, New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum had a surprise in store as he underwent a boxing session with a former professional boxer. McCullum was seen in the middle of a boxing ring in Auckland, sparring with former New Zealand light heavyweight Kevin Barry. He was also expected to undergo a session with Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker later today.

It would be understandable if New Zealand Cricket officials were unhappy about the national captain’s decision to jump into the ring so close to the clash with the Aussies. McCullum holds the key to victory for the Black Caps and the Aussies had started targeting him with a few verbal barbs in the lead up to the encounter at Eden Park.

Speaking of verbal barbs, Australia opener David Warner was the first to express his desire to force McCullum into a brain explosion while bowling coach Craig McDermott tried to downplay the Kiwi skipper’s importance with some pointed comments yesterday.
