South Africa’s swashbuckling batsman David Miller on February 15th, 2015 achieved a unique feat as he hit the most number of sixes in an innings of a World Cup match. He did this against Zimbabwe at Hamilton, where he hit 9 sixes in his unbeaten 138-run knock, which is also the 5th highest score by a South African player in the World Cup.

Miller came into bat at a stage when South Africa were reeling at 83/4 in 20 overs and along with with JP Duminy, he put on a 256-run partnership for the fifth wicket to save the team from the blushes and guide their total to 339/4 in their full quota of 50 overs. Miller also brought up his second ODI hundred and his first in World Cup. He also became the 15th player and the 2nd South African to score a hundred on World Cup debut.

The other batsmen to feature in the top 5 list of the most number of sixes scored in an innings of a World Cup match are former Australia’s World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting, Pakistan’s Imran Nazir, former Australia’s wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.
