Speculations were abounding that MS Dhoni would hang up his boots from international cricket after India’s World Cup 2019 campaign. India team though confirmed that there is no official world on Dhoni retiring from the 50-over format of the game. Meanwhile, Adam Gilchrist wants to pay his tribute to him.

Perhaps, one of India’s finest servants looks to have brought about the end to a successful era. India’s emotions after the team’s defeat to New Zealand in the semi-finals on Wednesday can be summed up with the images and videos of Dhoni crying soon after being run out by Martin Guptill.

Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja breathed life into India’s chase after the top three – Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli – departed having scored just 1 run each. Dinesh Karthik, sent in at No. 4, failed to make the most of the opportunity and was dismissed following a spectacular catch by James Neesham.

The duo produced a 116-run stand for the 7th wicket before Jadeja skied a delivery bowled by Trent Boult, with Kane Williamson taking a clean catch to break the partnership.

With Dhoni still in middle, all hopes were not over but the Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batsman saw Guptill turn from zero to hero in a split second as his direct throw – aimed at a single stump – got Dhoni just inches away from the crease.

For the umpteenth time in his career, Dhoni kept the hopes of India alive by helping the team recover from 92 for 6 in their chase of 240. Meanwhile, Adam Gilchrist thanks MS Dhoni for his services.

”Not sure if you are playing on but thanks You have given the game so much. Always admired your calmness and self belief,” Adam Gilchrist tweeted.
