ICC World Cup 2019: Allan Border Rates Kohli as One of the Top Three Captains
Former Australian World Cup winning skipper Allan Border has picked Virat Kohli, Eoin Morgan and Aaron Finch as the top three skippers to be watched out for in the World Cup. The former Australian skipper has led the team to their first World Cup triumph in 1987. The three skippers will be heading to World Cup 2019 starting from 30 May 2019 at The Oval.
Border stated the Indian skipper Kohli is aggressive and said his “in-your-face” style makes him different from Morgan and Finch. Kohli has led the team with aplomb and his record speaks for himself.
When asked, Border said, “Virat Kohli, I think he’s a different type of captain. He’s a bit more of a boisterous-type player and wears his heart on his sleeves.”
“So the players know if they’ve stuffed up because he’s one of those really in-your-face-type skippers,” he added.
Allan Border Calls Eoin Morgan’s side Dangerous in the World Cup 2019.
The Australian legend is impressed with the way England has raised their game. He lauded England skipper Eoin Morgan for the positive growth of the team. England has played relentlessly in the last four years and the results are palpable for their good performance.
“England, I think they’re doing exceptionally well. They’ve bought a different game plan to the table which is going to be interesting to see how it pans out in the World Cup. They’re a dangerous side because of it and you know as the bowling group you’re under pressure,” said Border.
The former Australian captain, who had led the team in 178 ODIs, feels Morgan is dangerous for other teams. He praised the English skipper and their coach for their change of tactics in the game.
“The way it looks to me, they might drop the odd game but they’re going to win enough games to get through to the semi-finals and that’s what it’s all about.
“That game plan under Trevor Bayliss as a coach and Eoin Morgan, I think he’s a seriously good one-day cricketer, and he’s as good a captain as there is going around. Tactically he’s very good and their game plan at the moment is a dangerous game plan to play against,” said Border.
Border is Impressed With Compatriot Finch’s Leadership Qualities
Meanwhile, the colossal player of Australia is also impressed with Aaron Finch especially the way he reacts under pressure.
“Aaron Finch is doing a great job. He’s got a good feel around the group, I think that’s what he brings to his captaincy. Everyone knows their responsibility and it’s a good environment to play in. So that’s a good start as a captain. He’s done a very good job,” said Border.
“Tactically, I think they(Kohli, Morgan and Finch) all do well.”
The return of David Warner and Steven Smith has boosted the energy around the Australian team in the World Cup. Subsequently, it has helped them make a come back as a strong challenger alongside India and England in the showpiece event. Australia will start their campaign against Afghanistan on 1st June at the Bristol County Ground.
