Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unanimously decided to change the design for the World Cup jersey for Bangladesh after there was widespread criticism from fans on social media regarding their previously designed jersey. There were several social media posts which lashed out at BCB for the choice of the jersey for the quadrennial event.
The decision to change the jersey came a day after the design of the jersey was unveiled in Dhaka on Monday. . “Red and green will be used in the jersey,” Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan said during a press conference in Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to change the design of the jersey. Bangladesh will now sport the red and green jersey for the World Cup which is slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May. The revelation of the new jersey was made at a news conference at the Shre-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
The new jersey has red in it’s sleeves and the name of the country is written in a white on a red triangle in the background. Bangladesh might well be one of the X factors of the tournament. They have a good team and will be led by Mashrafe Mortaza under whom Bangladesh has improved by leaps and bounds and made the semi-final during the ICC Champions Trophy which was held in England and Wales from 30th May.
Bangladesh has been the party poopers in the World Cup in the last few editions. However this year, Bangladesh considers themselves as contenders for the tournament which is a huge thing indeed. It was in the 2007 World when Bangladesh knock India out of the tournament after defeating them in a group game.
They also defeated South Africa in the tournament. They had a good outing in 2011 as well as defeating England. Even in 2015 they defeated England and knocked them out of the tournament. Hence Bangladesh cannot be taken lightly as they can make a difference in the showpiece event.
