ICC World Cup 2019: Ben Stokes Reveals Last Minute Plan Of The Final Over
The pressure Ben Stokes would have felled while facing the final ball of the final over would have been immense. Stokes received a full toss from Trent Boult but he did not go for the big shot. The southpaw batsman kept his ghosts of going for the glamour shot at bay. He was not going to go for the big shot and revealed that the plan was to go for the Super Over.
Meanwhile, Ben Stokes also recalled the match of the 2016 T20I World Cup. No, he didn’t contemplate the final where he was hit for four straight sixes by Carlos Brathwaite. But Stokes recalled the match when Bangladesh went for the big shots when they needed only two runs off last three balls.
However, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah decided to go for the glamour shots rather than playing with guile. In fact, Rahim even celebrated before the match was over.
Ben Stokes was not going to make the same mistake. He knew England will have the advantage in the Super Over. Thus, he took his lesson from Bangladesh’s mistake and helped England level the score.
“Just before the last ball, all I was thinking of was Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup game (against India in 2016),” Stokes said.
Stokes said: “Don’t try to be a hero and try hit it for six. Try to get one run and take it to the Super Over. That was my process. Emotions were running high on time.”
Ben Stokes has all the experience under his belt and he was able to make the most of it. Stokes was brilliant with the bat as he scored 84 runs from 98 balls.
The southpaw batsman scored five fours and two sixes in his imperative knock. Furthermore, he scored eight runs in the Super Over. Thus, Stokes was awarded the Man of the match for his brilliant display.
