ICC World Cup 2019: Brett Lee Gives His Prediction on Who Will Become the Player of the Tournament
Former Australia speedster and one of the fastest bowlers of all time, Brett Lee is of the opinion that swashbuckling Australian opener David Warner will bag the Man of the Series Award in the upcoming World Cup which is slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May. The final will be played at the iconic Lord’s Stadium on 14th July.
As we are just a week away from the start of the showpiece event, there are many former players and cricketers who have predicted the winners. The latest entrant in this prediction procedure was Brett Lee.
It will be a big tournament for David Warner and Steve Smith who will be returning to international cricket after serving a one year ban for their involvement in the ball tampering scandal in Cape Town on March last year. Warner and Smith both made impressive returns to competitive cricket during the Indian Premier League.
David Warner, in particular, was a class above the rest and never looked like missing international cricket for a year. The southpaw finished the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) as the leading run scorer of the tournament. The southpaw played just 12 matches but finished with a staggering runs tally of 692.
He looked in ominous touch and smashed the opposition bowlers all around the park. Warner also smashed 8 fifties and a century during the tournament. With the sort of form David Warner has been in, Brett Lee was of the opinion that the southpaw will be adjudged the Player of the Series. “[He] looks hungry – batting the best I’ve ever seen him bat,” Brett Lee told Foxsports.com.au at Fox Cricket’s World Cup launch on Tuesday.
Australia who is the defending champions will be looking to win their 6th World Cup title. They will come into the tournament on the back of series victories against India and Pakistan. With the return of Smith and Warner, Australia will be a bolstered unit and will pose a serious threat to the opposition.
