It was a day to remember for Afghanistan as they defeated neighbours Pakistan by 3 wickets in their opening World Cup warm-up clash. A special day, in the end, turned out to be a disappointing one in the end as celebratory gunfire injured at least 10 people in the country. The Afghanistan people were celebrating their country’s victory against Pakistan in the World Cup warm-up clash on Friday. The firing took place in the capital city of Kabul and the eastern provinces of Nangarhar and Khost.
As per reports in the 1TV News, Nasrat Rahimi the spokesperson for Interior Ministry confirmed about the disheartening incident. He further confirmed that among the 10 injured, one was in a critical condition. The police have arrested 43 from Kabul, 31 from Nangarhar and 14 from Khost. It was indeed an unfortunate incident and the police have done a good job.
Coming back to the warm-up clash it was Afghanistan who registered a close victory by 3 wickets and with a couple of deliveries to spare. Earlier in the day, it was a terrific century from the blade of Babar Azam which propelled Pakistan to a competitive score of 262. In the Afghanistan batting line-up, it was Hazratullah Zazai’s knock of 49 of 28 which helped the Afghans get off to a flying start. In the end, it was Hashmatullah Shahidi who anchored the innings and completed a win for Afghanistan.
Afghanistan might be playing only their 2nd World Cup, they have a pretty formidable side and can cause quite a few upsets in the tournament if any team takes them lightly. They have a strong all-rounder team led by Gulbadin Naib who was recently made the skipper prior to the World Cup. In the form of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, they have two able spinners who can turn the game on its head with their classy bowling.
