ICC World Cup 2019: David Willey Gutted After Missing the Bus for the Showpiece Event

England left-arm speedster and an able batsman down the order, David Willey was utterly disappointed after losing out on a spot in the 2019 World Cup squad and expressed his disappointment on his Twitter handle.

David Willey was initially picked in the preliminary 15 member squad and was hopeful to don the England colours in the showpiece event. However, he was left out of the final squad which was announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today.

Taking to his Twitter handle, David Willey wrote, “What can I say, I’m absolutely gutted. Still 100% behind the lads. On a positive…..still winning at life!!. There is no doubt about the fact that David Willey is bound to feel a little low after getting dropped from the squad. In his place, it was Jofra Archer who featured in the squad after impressive performances in the IPL and for England in the series against Ireland and Pakistan.

Willey shared a video with the caption where his infant son can be playing around and for him, it is more than getting picked for the showpiece event. The exclusion of David Willey was indeed a surprising one as he is also a lusty striker of the ball lower down the order and can get his side some useful runs lower down the order.

Meanwhile, England will start their World Cup campaign on 30th May against South Africa. They will be one of the top contenders to lift the World Cup. However, they have some issues in the bowling department after conceding more than 300 to Pakistan on most occasions. Their batting order is of the highest order who has the ability to destroy any bowling line-up on their day.

Meanwhile, Willey’s replacement for the tournament is Jofra Archer who is one of the finest talents in world cricket at the moment. He can bowl at over 140 km/hr on a consistent basis and has the ability to hit some lusty blows as well.
