England Cricket team fast bowler Stuart Broad believes the upcoming ICC World Cup is their best opportunity to put a hand on the coveted trophy. Meanwhile, England will host the showpiece event along with Wales starting from May 30. Moreover, Broad also feels they need to win the cup to be an all-time great team. The top-ranked ODI side will begin their campaign against South Africa in the tournament opener at the Kennington Oval.

Best opportunity to win: Broad

Meanwhile, England have managed to reach the final of the World Cup three times. However, they are yet to win the title. Stuart Broad is keen to overcome the last hurdle this time and said that it is their best opportunity. Eoin Morgan & Co have played good cricket in this format in the last two-three years. Since their ouster in the 2015 World Cup, the team have regrouped themselves and come out stronger. Besides, they have also played an attacking brand of cricket with the clean hitters in their ranks.

Stuart Broad admitted that they are putting in the extra yards to keep themselves in shape. Also, England have quality players who can win games single-handedly, feels Broad. He also stressed on the fact they need to win trophies to be termed as a great team.

“We are training hard now and doing all we can to stay in peak physical shape,” said Broad on the Test Match Special podcast. For English cricket, [this is] our best ever chance of winning a World Cup. I can’t think we’ve had [before] the talent of players who can win games single-handedly in the likes of [Jason] Roy, [Jos] Buttler, [Ben] Stokes, [Eoin] Morgan.

“You talk about eras of sports teams… People only judged on winning trophies, aren’t you? You can’t name me a great sports team that hasn’t won a major trophy. For this England ODI side to be classed as a great team, they’re going to have to win the World Cup,” Stuart Broad added.

The upcoming tournament is likely to be the last World Cup for the English pacer along with his long term partner James Anderson. They have tinkered with their bowling techniques to be more effective during the World Cup. The pace duo has been a great servant of England cricket and will be desperate to win this title. The grand final of the pinnacle tournament is on July 14 at Lord’s.
