ICC World Cup 2019: England Vs New Zealand, Lord’s – England’s Predicted Playing XI

It’s finally here and we stand just one day away from knowing whether England will clinch their maiden World Cup trophy or will underdogs New Zealand finally fulfill their dream of lifting the trophy. At the outset, England were the favourites while many did not give New Zealand a chance. Both the teams had a tough road in the league stage but performed well in the semi-finals to book a final date.

Prior to the summit clash of World Cup 2019, let us have a look at likely playing XI of England and know whether they will make an experiment for the final –

Jason Roy:

The right-handed aggressive batsman will be opening the batting for his side and will hope to bat the same way like he did against Australia. With 426 runs in the tournament so far with a strike-rate of 117.03, Roy has been the star for his side and will have a crucial role to play in the final.

Just like Roy, Bairstow has also been key to England’s aggressive starts in the tournament. Although, he takes the side seat whenever Roy is on fire. In the final, again, he will have the job to hold one end and let Roy go bonkers to provide a good start to the Three Lions.

Joe Root:

England’s Test captain has surprised everyone with his form in the World Cup so far and he finds himself sitting at fourth place in the list of most runs in the tournament. England will hope Root to stand tall once again in the final and take the responsibility.

Eoin Morgan:

One of the vital cogs in the success of England, captain Morgan has led the team from the front till now and has also done well with the bat. Morgan will have to do the heavy lifting in the final if the situation demands.

Jos Buttler:

The wicketkeeper-batsman hasn’t got much chances in the tournament so far but he has the capability to score big and fast in given situations. England will hope Buttler to stand tall in the final if the opportunity arises.

Ben Stokes:

The all-rounder has been one of the best players for his side so far in both the departments and is also a great fielder. He will surely get his chance with the ball and would like to provide breakthroughs to his team.

Adil Rashid:

Rashid wasn’t having best of the World Cup but against Australia, his spin magic worked and he dismissed Alex Carey and Marcus Stoinis in the same over to do the things quickly for England. Despite shoulder issue, he continues to bowl for his side and Rashid will hope to be among wicket-takers in the final.

Jofra Archer:

Archer has to be the find of World Cup for England and it can be said that that the youngster lived up to the promise that he showed on road to the tournament. The key for him will be to continue doing the same and aim for early wickets, given that New Zealand’s openers have not had a great run so far.

Liam Plunkett:

Not letting New Zealand score runs in the middle overs will be a major duty for the experienced campaigner. Plunkett has played six matches in the tournament and has scalped eight wickets.

Mark Wood:

Wood continues to bowl fast in the tournament and again, England will have hopes from him at the biggest stage. Wood has scalped 17 wickets in nine matches.

Chris Woakes:

The star of England with the new ball, Woakes has his task cut out – take early wickets of struggling New Zealand’s openers. He has taken crucial wickets for England in first powerplay and he has his job at his hand right away.
