ICC World Cup 2019: Fans Throw Support Behind ‘Calculative’ MS Dhoni

When MS Dhoni started off to wield bat like an axe in the first semi-final at the Old Trafford on July 10, the game was on until the last ball would have been bowled, but what Martin Guptill couldn’t do with the bat throughout the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019, did it in a second, that millisecond – to get rid of exemplary Dhoni, who kept things very simple while witnessing Ravindra Jadeja going all guns blazing at the other end following a disastrous start in the run chase. He is that calculative Dhoni.

Meanwhile, Twittersphere has praised Guptill for his brilliance on the field. Apart from it, many had termed Guptill’s run-out ‘freak’. On the other side, the 38-year-old Dhoni, who recently earned praise for his courageous knock, had further faced criticism for not taking his team over the line.

Moreover, Dhoni, who made his debut in 2004, had emerged as a star cricketer by playing a crucial role with the bat before ending up on becoming one of the successful captains in the cricketing landscape.

Well, on Wednesday, India has failed to chase down the modest target of 240 against New Zealand in Manchester. Earlier, the match was played on two separate days due to inclement weather.

On Tuesday, Kane Williamson-led side won the toss and elected to bat first. The Black Caps huffed and puffed to 239 for eight in 50 allotted overs.

In reply, India lost the first three wickets at the score of five. Again, when the score was 71, India lost its sixth wicket in the form of Hardik Pandya. Also, At the total of 92, Rishabh Pant, who played a rash slog-sweep to lose his wickets on the bowling of Mitchell Santner.

However, Dhoni alongside Ravindra Jadeja had stitched 116-run stand for the seventh wicket before Boult dismissed Jadeja on 77 off 59 balls.

In the space of three balls, India lost Dhoni following a brilliant direct hit by Guptill which also put an end to the hopes of millions of fans. And, above all, his die-hard fans.

Besides, apart from all the disappointment, the fans on Twitter had come up with unconditional support for Dhoni. Also, Dhoni looked devasted when he trudged off the ground following a shocking exit from the ODI showpiece.

Meanwhile, #DhoniForever is trending on Twitter.
