ICC World Cup 2019: Five Best Moments of the World Cup

ICC World Cup 2019 is all over with plenty of drama and rush of adrenaline, as historic Lord’s had witnessed a cliff hanger. England were crowned as champions for the first time. On Super Sunday, when England and New Zealand battled it out in the heart of London. Interestingly, for the four years, England had fought back with a single delivery after suffocating on a surface which has been too sluggish to bat on.

The game tied before the Super Over had also produced a heart-racing result, as the Three Lions script the glory on the virtue of more boundaries.

ICC World Cup: Let’s take a look at those five best moments of the World Cup:

Charulata Patel – the Old Gold Fan:

The 87-year-old Charulata Patel had become an overnight sensation. She blew trumpet while cheering for India from the stands.

Charulata had made her appearance during India vs England game on June 30. Also, she further cheered for India when Men in Blue had faced Bangladesh.

Following a 28-run win over the Tigers, Team India skipper had met Charulata and thanked passionate Charulata for her unconditional support.

Also, Kohli had kept his promise for the tickets. Charulata, who loves cricket to the core, had further cheered for India during their Headingley game against Sri Lanka in Leeds.

While going by her swag, Pepsi had also produced a commercial with Charulata starring for the same. The ad has the tagline of โ€˜Har Ghoont Mein Swagโ€™.

Windies T20 World Cup hero Carlos Brathwaite had a moment to become a hero once again. But Trent Boult didn’t let it happen by taking a sensation catch at the boundary ropes on the bowling of Jimmy Neesham.

The muscular all-rounder had almost pulled off a miraculous win at the Old Trafford on 22nd June when they were reeling at 164 for seven.

Braithwaite had put an outstanding show by slamming 82-ball 101, but agonisingly fell short of just five runs when the Windies were all-out for 286 in 49 overs.

Batting first, the Black Caps put 291 for eight on the board.

Soon after witnessing Boult had taken a superb catch, Brathwaite was on his knees before Kiwis players walked up to him to console. Kane Williamson had patted on Brathwaite’s back, so as, Ross Taylors.

Besides, other Kiwis players had acknowledged his brilliance with the bat.

Team India skipper Virat Kohli, who always wears heart on his sleeve, had won hearts during their game against Australia on June 9.

The heartwarming gesture from Kohli for Steven Smith broke the internet.

After Indian fans booed Smith, who was fielding at the boundary line, Virat Kohli, who was batting had gestured towards the crowd. Kohli had urged the Oval crowd to cheer up Smith before extending an apology to Smith in the press conference.

In response, Smith had thanked Kohli for his heartwarming gesture.

Pertinently, Smith was making a comeback in the national team after serving a 12-month ban due to a ball-tampering fiasco in March 2018.

Martin Guptill’s Brilliance:

In the thrilling semi-final at the Old Trafford in Manchester, Martin Guptill had produced a game-changing moment when his direct hit found MS Dhoni well short of his crease.

Men in Blue had lost the game by 18 runs despite a brilliant comeback. Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni steadied the ship to script the history, but Guptill scampered to push Kiwis into the finale.

Well, in the tense run chase, India were reeling at 92 for six before the duo stitched 116 run crucial stand for the seventh wicket. However, Trent Boult got rid of Jadeja, before Dhoni’s unfortunate run out saw Kiwis rejoicing.

On the batting front, Guptill had a below-par World Cup.

Anyway, on the seemingly most interminable Sunday night dated as 14th of July, cricket was the ultimate winner. But again, there were the things that would definitely force the ICC to make amends.

From the tied game, to the absorbing Super Over finale at Lord’s, the long room for post-most press conference had witnessed Eoin Morgan and Kane Willaimson praising each other’s team.

Even though, England had won their maiden World Cup for smashing most boundaries. It read as 26-17.

On the other hand, New Zealand will return with their heads high for producing a sensational show at iconic Lord’s.

All in all, England have won the trophy, but Kiwis had won hearts. Overall, both teams had maintained the integrity with saw them becoming people’s champions for their spirit of the game in a nutshell.
