ICC World Cup 2019: Gulbadin Naib Rates India As One of Tournament Favorites
Afghanistan will face India at Rose Bowl on Saturday. Both the teams had different routes in the ongoing world cup so far. India had absolutely demolished all the teams that came across them.
On the other hand, Afghanistan lost their first five matches despite playing some spirited cricket. As both teams are set for the match, Gulbadin Naib was full of praise for India ahead of their clash.
Both India and Afghanistan share good relations in cricket as BCCI provided helping hand for ACB since the start. The quality between the two sides provide a stark contrast. But Naib hopes that his side can produce a good performance against India.
“India is a very good team and they are one of the favourites in the World Cup. India is a top-ranked team and we will try to showcase a good performance against them,” he said.
Virat Kohli‘s men are undoubtedly one of the favorites to win world cup this summer. The men in blue looked in complete control of the matches they played in.
However, Afghanistan cannot be taken lightly by India.
The Afghans produced some good cricket against Sri Lanka, where they could have clinched a win. On the other hand, they were good in most of the other games. But their recent match against England should be forgotten quickly. In India, they face yet another major challenge in this tough period.
The team did not click together as a unit. They should be really disheartened with the way they played so far. Everyone knows that Afghanistan are a much better side than there are right now.
However, the skipper has reiterated that Afghanistan cricket is still growing. They are happy with the progress, the team had in recent times. Naib also revealed that the current world cup is a very special experience for the team.
“Everyone knows that Afghanistan is a growing team. For me, it’s good that we are among the top 10 teams. We are learning and it’s a very special experience for us. If you look at Afghanistan, you can spot the changes which have occurred in the last four to five years. There was a chance to beat Sri Lanka but we missed it,” Gulbadin added.
Needless to say, Afghanistan are one of the exciting upcoming cricketing nations. However, they should believe they can give that little extra to get more closer to wins than they did in this world cup.
On the other hand, Rashid Khan had an off day against England. The talented mystery spinner gave away 110 runs in his 9 overs. But skipper Naib backed his strike bowler.
