Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali isn’t worried about the prospect of flat pitches during the 2019 World Cup. He is an exciting young talent who won the Player of the Tournament Award when Pakistan won the Champions Trophy in 2017. He bagged 13 wickets to be the man of the tournament for Pakistan. Hence there is a lot of expectations from Hasan Ali.
However, his recent form has been worrying for Pakistan. The Men in Green have suffered 10 straight ODI losses leading up to the World Cup. Pakistan will face West Indies in their first game in Nottingham slated to be played tomorrow. Hasan Ali stated that he has the art of bowling on flat pitches as he has been a bowler from the subcontinent where pitches are often batting friendly and hardly offers anything for the bowlers.
“The way modern cricket is going, every bowler needs to know that taking wickets is the key,” Hasan said. “You take wickets and you win matches.” Hasan Ali rose to prominence in 2017 as he finished the year as the leading wicket-taker in the world with 45 scalps. However, he was pretty ordinary during the ODI series against England recently which Pakistan lost by a 4-0 margin. Hasan managed to bag just 3 wickets in 4 matches.
“I know that I have not taken many wickets since the South Africa tour, but I am doing the hard work with bowling coach (Azhar Mahmood) and once I get my rhythm I am sure wickets will come my way,” said Hasan.
“We know that our bowling, which has been our strength, is not doing well but with the return of two experienced bowlers in Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir our bowling is now at full strength,” he added.
Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz wasn’t part of the preliminary World Cup squad and was brought in place of Junaid Khan and Faheem Ashraf. Amir has missed the last 4 ODI’s in England owing to chicken pox but was still included in the World Cup squad especially due to his experience and ability to perform in big tournaments.
