England skipper Eoin Morgan has admitted the fact that the Lord’s final has been a bit ‘unfair’ that it has come to an end in a controversial way. He is somewhat concerned with the way the twelfth edition of the ICC World Cup has come to an end.

On July 14, the Three Lions had won an epic final on the boundary count. Thus, the hosts won their first-ever ODI showpiece. Meanwhile, New Zealand were playing their second consecutive final after losing to Australia by seven wickets at the MCG.

Earlier, on an eventful day, England had their chances to win the game, but Trent Boult had bowled well despite conceding 14 in the 50th over of English innings. Subsequently, the game ended in a tie, before the Super Over also culminated in a tie.

With this dramatic win, hosts had a chance to lift the coveted trophy at the balcony of the Home of Cricket.

Meanwhile, Morgan, in his recent statement, maintained the grand finale was poised with both teams fighting it out until the last ball at the iconic venue.

“I don’t think it’s fair to have a result like that when there’s very little between the sides. I don’t think there was one moment that you could say that actually cost the game there. It was quite balanced,”Morgan told The Times.

The 32-year-old Dublin-born Morgan also admitted that it had troubled him a lot. He is also struggling to understand what has actually happened during the thrilling finale.

“I’m black and white. I’m normally going: ‘I know. I was there, that happened.’ (But) I can’t stick my finger on where the game was won and lost. I’m not sure winning it makes it any easier. It would be more difficult to lose, of course,” Morgan added.

England deserved the World Cup title:

Morgan, who had played a crucial role during the World Cup, also reiterated that the Three Lions had deserved to win the World Cup.

“There’s no defining moment that you’d say: ‘Yes, we thoroughly deserved it.’ It’s just been crazy,” Morgan further added.

By considering the intensity of the World Cup, Morgan maintained that it had been one of the greatest matches in the cricketing history.

“By a long way. I can’t think of a game that’s come close. Madness. I should be cheery about it, shouldn’t I?” Morgan concluded.

Meanwhile, England will face Ireland in One-off Test before facing Australia in the Ashes 2019. The five-match Traditional Test series will commence from August 1st in Birmingham.
