Afghanistan premier spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will look to forger his below-par performances in Vivo IPL 12 and come out triumphant in the upcoming 2019 World Cup which is slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May. Mujeeb Ur Rahman didn’t manage to play all the games. However, during the break, Mujeeb Ur Rahman did a good thing as he picked the brains of Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of the quadrennial event in England.
It was a shoulder injury which never really allowed Mujeeb to return to the rhythm. He bagged only 3 wickets in 5 games at an expensive economy rate of 10.05 runs. In one of the matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mujeeb went on to concede 66 runs in his 4 overs spell which proved to be a decisive factor behind their ouster from the tournament.
“I have learnt a lot having spent quality time with Ravichandran Ashwin in the KXIP set-up. He has given me a lot of useful tips and I am sure that I will execute those plans in the World Cup. During this edition of IPL, my shoulder injury was an issue. But now I am fully fit for the World Cup,” Mujeeb Ur Rahman told reporters at a promotional event on Tuesday.
Though Mujeeb didn’t manage to play all the matches this year, the best part about IPL for Mujeeb is to get an opportunity to bowl at some of the potential World Cup opponents.
“The IPL schedule is so hectic, and you are travelling a lot. It’s not that you get a lot of chances to talk about the game. But since you get a chance to bowl in matches where there are batsmen who will be there in the World Cup, it helps a lot,” said the teenager.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman further stated that along with spinners Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, he will make a mark for Afghanistan and his nation will have a better World Cup compared to the 2015 edition. He further revealed that they will at least aim to qualify for the Semifinal which will indeed be a huge task in front.
“Our aim is to at least qualify for the semi-finals. All three of us have different strengths and the main thing that we discuss on-field is to stick to our respective plans. The basic plan is to consistently bowl good areas and hopefully we will be able to do that,” he said.
