ICC World Cup 2019: I Try To Learn From Virat Kohli- Babar Azam
Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has revealed that he closely follows Virat Kohli’s batting. The talented young batsman has insisted that he learns a lot from Indian skipper.
Babar Azam became one of the most reliable batsman for Pakistan over the last 18 months. He is scoring runs at a consistent rate. Meanwhile, he is the key for Pakistan in the ongoing world cup. Just days before India’s clash, Babar Azam spoke about the admiration he has for Virat Kohli’s batting.
However, despite his run scoring, Babar Azam is keen to win the matches for his country like Virat Kohli does for India.
“I watch his batting and the way he bats in various conditions and try to learn from them,” Babar told reporters.
“I try to learn with experience. This is my process of learning, so I try my hundred per cent. His (Kohli) winning ratio is higher (for India) so I am trying to achieve that as well.”
India and Pakistan are set to play against each other at Manchester on Sunday. The hype building around the game is very high and it is the show piece event in the world cup. On the other hand, rain threatens to disrupt this all important clash. But fans are hoping to see a complete match on Sunday.
The last time India and Pakistan faced each other in an ICC event is the Champions Trophy final. Pakistan clinched a massive 180 run win against favorites India. That was their biggest win in terms of runs against India in ODI history. Babar Azam feels that result gives Pakistan a lot of hope ahead of Sunday clash.
“The Champions Trophy win gave us confidence and will also help here as well because the team is mostly the same and that win is always an inspiration,” Babar said.
“That win can never go off our memories and it’s a big inspiration,” he said.
The arch rivals are set for a blockbuster of a contest on Sunday.
It is expected to be watched by 1.5 billion from across the world. So naturally, the pressure is always high in the game. India once again start as favorites but Pakistan will be no pushovers.
“We are well prepared for this match because India and Pakistan matches are exciting and demanding and the whole world watches it,” Babar said.
“The whole team is positive so we are looking forward to the match. Not only me but all the players want to finish on a high, whoever hits form wants to win it.”
India have one of the strongest bowling units in this world cup. But Babar Azam thinks that they can deal with it. Especially, after playing so well against England with the bat, Pakistan batsmen should have confidence in their abilities. But the top order needs to be fine form against India to stand a chance against title favorites.
“No doubt, India have a good bowling attack but we have played well against England who also have a very good pace attack so all of us are confident the Indian pace attack will be properly handled,” Babar said.
