ICC World Cup 2019: I Want to See Virat Kohli Holding the Trophy at the Lord’s Balcony on 14th July Quips India Fielding Coach R Sridhar
The 12th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is just around the corner and all the participating teams will look to get their hands at the coveted title at the end of the tournament. The showpiece event will be played in England and Wales from 30th May to 14th July.
It is for the first time after 1992 that a round robin format like this has been introduced. Home team England is one of the frontrunners to lift their maiden World Cup title while India also looks a strong unit and has the ability to win their 3rd 50 overs World Cup title.
All the Team India members and the support staffs are optimistic of India winning the World Cup and conquering the world for the 3rd time after triumphs in 1983 and 2011. Meanwhile the fielding coach of Team India, Ramakrishna Sridhar has expressed his desire and dream which is to see India captain Virat Kohli holding aloft the World Cup trophy at the iconic Lord’s balcony on 14th July.
The Men in Blue will have a realistic chance of winning the World Cup after being two of the most consistent teams in the world in the last couple of years.
“We have a beautifully balanced team capable of winning the World Cup. And, maybe, in the second half, the spinners will come into play. I am not the one to pick the top four favourites. But, my dream is to see Virat lift the Cup on the balcony of Lord’s. Will it not be a sight to behold?” R Sridhar was quoted as saying by Sportstar during an exclusive interview.
“The Indians have a terrific attitude on the field and it is not that we are preparing for the World Cup in a World Cup. The efforts have been on for months and you can see the results for yourself,” R Sridhar added.
Sridhar was with the Indian World Cup back in 2015 as well when they had to bow out of the tournament after losing the semi-final against Australia. The surfaces in England have become batting friendly wickets and hence the tournament is expected to be a high scoring one. Very recently we witnessed England winning the ODI series against Pakistan by a 4-0 margin despite conceding more than 340 on three occasions.
He further added that the Men in Blue shouldn’t worry too much as they have one of the best fielding units in the tournament. R Sridhar further thanked the team skipper Virat Kohli, head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and former skipper MS Dhoni for always backing him.
