ICC World Cup 2019: India Not To Name Replacement For Injured Shikhar Dhawan
Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan had suffered an injury on his thumb while batting against Australia. He never took the field while India were bowling on Sunday.
While batting, Dhawan had sustained the injury on his left thumb. Reports earlier suggested that the southpaw could miss almost 3 weeks of action. Scans on Tuesday revealed that Dhawan suffered a hairline fracture on his thumb.
There were news reports across media about Dhawan being ruled out of world cup. However, latest report from Cricbuzz suggests Shikhar Dhawan will remain under observation.
They also reported that no replacements will be announced. Although, it is definite that Dhawan will miss the game against New Zealand. This could be a huge news for Indian fans who are stuck by the injury news earlier today.

Shikhar Dhawan is a vital cog in this Indian batting setup.
The left hander played a brilliant knock against Australia at The Oval. His important century helped India score a massive 352 in their 50 overs. Eventually, India were the winners on the day and Dhawan was adjourned as Man of the Match.
However, despite his hundred, the southpaw suffered thumb injury from a rising Pat Cummins bouncer. Indian physio Patrick Farhart immediately attended to the player but Dhawan continued batting.
On the other hand, in the absence of Dhawan, KL Rahul could be pushed to open the innings. Even if Dhawan misses a good chunk of games, if he is fit for the semi finals, India will be massive favorites for the title.
Such is the impact created by Dhawan in England, it is hard to think of a replacement. Meanwhile, if KL Rahul is pushed up the order, experienced Dinesh Karthik could make his way into the side.
He and Rohit Sharma are probably the best opening partners in ODI cricket. But India are going to find the best solution before New Zealand match. It will be interesting to see, how Indian team looks in Dhawan’s absence.
The Indian team are still favorites but Dhawan’s injury is a tough blow at the start of world cup. However, Indian fans will hope Dhawan to recover in time for the latter stages of the mega event.
