ICC World Cup 2019: India Will Definitely Go into the Showpiece Event as Favourites Feels Mithali Raj
Team India women’s team ODI skipper Mithali Raj feels that the Indian men’s team are the favourites t lift the 2019 World Cup. Mithali feels that the whole team is loaded with superstars and each and every one of them has the ability to change the complexion of the game with their all-around abilities. In a video posted on her Twitter handle, Mithali Raj stated India has several match winners and are likely to win the 12th edition of the Men’s World Cup.
“Indian team has a lot of match winners now. Of course, captain (Virat Kohli) leads them from the front with the openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan,” Mithali Raj said in a video posted on Twitter. She was in Hyderabad and was being interviewed by the British High Commission.
“But we also have fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and the spinners. But overall, I think the team which post a big total, and the bowlers are able to do the job to constrain those runs is the team that is going to win. But we do have a lot of depth. We have the expertise of Dhoni in the side. So, I can’t pick one player, but India definitely has a lot of match winners,” Raj further added.
When asked which team will be the winners of the showpiece event, Mithali Raj said that the Men in Blue have a great chance of winning their 3rd ODI World Cup. “India is going in as favourites. They have been doing very well in the one-dayers and in other formats in the recent past.”
Meanwhile, she also feels hosts England who is currently the No 1 ranked ODI side in the world also have a great chance of lifting their maiden World Cup title. They have played some sensational cricket off late and defeated Pakistan 4-0 in the recently concluded ODI series.
“But I cannot rule out the home team. They had some 10 to 15 victory streak in the one-dayers. They will have the home conditions. But having said that, I think as an Indian I will root for India,” she said.
The Men in Blue will face Bangladesh and New Zealand in the two warm-up games on 25th and 28th May respectively. They will begin the main event on 5th June against the Proteas.
