ICC World Cup 2019: Indian Opener Shikhar Dhawan Confirms His Exit From World Cup
Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan had confirmed that he will no longer be part of world cup 2019. The south paw is one of the best batsmen in Indian team. His loss would be a huge blow for Virat Kohli and team going ahead in the tournament.
The 33-year old suffered a thumb injury after taking a blow from a Pat Cummins bouncer. However, he continued batting on the day and managed to score a hundred. His knock proved to be the ultimate difference between India and Australia. The Men in blue won the game comfortably by 36 runs.
His experience and his ability to score big in ICC events will be missed by Indian fans. Although, initial reports suggested that Dhawan could be out for 3 weeks time, Indian team management remained optimistic.
Meanwhile, Indian medical staff closely monitored the player. However, with only little progress in his recovery, the player announced his exit from the tournament. In his absence, KL Rahul is expected to open the innings.
Shikhar Dhawan is known for his knocks in ICC tournaments.
Dhawan himself posted a video on his social media to confirm on the news. He wished the team all the success and thanked fans for their wonderful support over the past few days.
His tweet read: “I feel emotional to announce that I will no longer be a part of #CWC19. Unfortunately, the thumb won’t recover on time. But the show must go on.. I’m grateful for all the love & support from my team mates, cricket lovers & our entire nation. Jai Hind!🙏 “

On the other hand, in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant will take his place in the squad. The talented Delhi batsman had a wonderful IPL season. He will be a valuable asset to Indian middle order batting in the coming matches.
Pant could be the X factor for team India in crucial matches. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how Indian middle order will lineup in the coming days. India are currently struggling with injuries. Main pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar suffered a hamstring injury against Pakistan. He is expected to be sidelined for at least two matches.
India could continue with Vijay Shankar if the conditions suit seam bowling. But Pant could also be granted a place directly into the starting XI as he is an immense talent.
