ICC World Cup 2019: IPL is the Ideal Platform to Perform and Get Prepared for High Intense Battle in the World Cup Reveals Rashid Khan
One of the finest bowlers in world cricket at the moment, Rashid Khan has stated that Afghanistan is gearing up for the upcoming 2019 World Cup and said that the inexperienced Afghanistan team will look to go rise above their class in the showpiece event. The quadrennial event is slated to start from 30th May with the final slated to be played at the iconic Lord’s on 14th July.
Afghanistan qualified for the finals of the tournament after beating Windies in the final of the Qualifiers Trophy. In the last few years, Afghanistan has gone to a different level after playing their maiden World Cup back in 2015. Afghanistan registered their maiden ODI win in the World Cup after defeating Scotland in the 2015 World Cup. They were eliminated in the group stages but stands a significant chance this year especially given their experience of playing in pressure situations.
The captain of the team was changed a few days prior to the start of the 2019 World Cup. Afghanistan will be led by Gulbadin Naib. Afghanistan will meet Australia in their 1st main game of the tournament on June 1. They will play England and Pakistan in the two warm-up matches for the main event.
Afghanistan, led by Gulbadin Naib, will begin their World Cup 2019 campaign against Australia on June 1 “It is time for us to deliver something. That will be the main target. We prepared hard for it. It doesn’t make sense that we are happy Afghanistan who got the opportunity to be playing at the World Cup. Our aim is we are not just going to participate in the World Cup, we need to do something different,” Rashid Khan was quoted as saying by The Advertiser.
“We have the skills, everything. We won’t have as much experience at the World Cup as other teams but we have to take advantage of our talent and play well in a big situation.
“We need to show the world we are not only good on paper. That was the plan for the Asia Cup and will be for the World Cup as well. We didn’t do well in the past under pressure but I think this World Cup it is about beating big teams and play good cricket as we did in the Asia Cup,” Rashid Khan added.
Meanwhile the 20-year-old leggie Rashid Khan also revealed that taking part in the Indian Premier League prior to the World Cup will work in their favour. He said that IPL is the ideal platform to perform and get prepared for high intense battles. He shared the dressing room with quite a few stalwarts of the game. He was also guided well by Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan.
“It is always tough performing on that stage and good preparation for me for the World Cup. We had David Warner, Kane Williamson, Bhuvi Kumar. Playing with some big names will give me courage and experience,” Rashid Khan said.
