ICC World Cup 2019: Javed Miandad Urges Pakistan to Deliver Under Pressure Against India

Pakistan veteran Javed Miandad has backed his national team Pakistan for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2019. He has urged the Sarfraz Ahmed-led team to embrace pressure in a bid to give their best against arch-rivals India at the upcoming ICC mega event scheduled to commence from May 30.

Miandad personally has played a quintessential role for Pakistan to register some famous victories during his heydays. The prolific batsman of his time Miandad has amassed 7,381 runs in 233 One-day Internationals (ODI) for Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will place top-notch team India in the mother of all matches on June 16 at the Old Trafford.

The 61-year-old Karachi-based cricketer reiterated there is always pressure when two neighbouring countries take on each other.

“Let’s be honest. There is always pressure when India and Pakistan meet in the field of sport,” Miandad was quoted as saying, by Sky Sports.

However, known for his aptitude, Miandad believes the proficiency will help the players to overcome the pressure. He added the leaders in Virat Kohli, and Sarfraz won’t allow stress to affect their game

“But as professional sportsmen, we all know that any anxiety or pressure that is placed on us before the game disappears once the first ball is bowled. After that it simply becomes a case of playing to the best of your abilities in the same way you would do against any other opponent. It is also true that there will be a lot of pressure on both Virat Kohli and Sarfraz Ahmed to win. But both are professionals who will not let this sort of pressure affect their own game or that of their players,” added Miandad.

Time and again, the streets wore a deserted look while the India-Pakistan match has taken place. Given their rivalry, the primary two subcontinent teams are ready to wrestle against each other with the same passion and energy.

In conclusion, Miandad has lauded Kohli for his sheer consistency. The star batsman believes doing good in batting makes the leadership role a bit simple.

“He is a proven batsman who can simply be part of his side as a batsman alone. And leading a side then becomes easier,” Miandad inferred.

Also, Miandad feels those who fail to give their best in the pressure won’t deserve any space in the team. Overall, he is excited to witness the round-robin format.
