The South African team management is hopeful that their gun fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will be fit for the ICC World Cup 2019. Rabada suffered a back injury in the Indian Premier League. The talisman fast bowler played for the Delhi Capitals and he is currently the leading wicket-taker in the season.

Rabada bowled with fire in the IPL as the pacer scalped 25 wickets in the 12 matches he played for the Delhi franchise. However, he suffered a back niggle and he was called back by the South African board.

Kagiso Rabada is going to hold the key.

Meanwhile, South Africa will begin their World Cup preparation from May 12 and they will jet off to England on 19th May. The Proteas will play two warm-up matches and they will begin their World Cup campaign against hosts England at the Oval on 30th May.

South Africa manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee confirmed that Rabada will require two to three weeks to recuperate from the back injury.

“The anticipated recovery period for Rabada’s injury is two to three weeks and we are hopeful he’ll make a full recovery to be part of the World Cup squad,” team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said.

On the other hand, South Africa’s injury woes have continued. Dale Steyn is nursing a shoulder injury whereas Lungi Ngidi is also recovering from a side strain. Furthermore, Anrich Nortje was ruled from the upcoming World Cup. Subsequently, Chris Morris was named as his replacement in the 15-man squad.

“The selectors have ensured they have enough options on the table but there are some players that have been earmarked as standby players,” Moosajee added.

Meanwhile, all ten World Cup teams are required to confirm their 15-man squad before May 23. However, the injured players can be replaced during the tournament.

Kagiso Rabada is going to hold the key as he has bowled with fire in the recent past. Rabada is one of the best fast bowlers in the World and he would like to be at the top of his fitness ahead of the World Cup.
