Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has predicted a final between India and England. The former swashbuckling batsman believes the hosts England will whack their arch-rivals Australia in the semifinal. India will play New Zealand in the first semifinal whereas England will take on Australia in the second semifinal.
India had topped the points table with 15 points under their belt. The Men in Blue had won seven matches in the league stage whereas they lost one game. In fact, the match against New Zealand had ended in no result as the rain had played a killjoy.
Meanwhile, England is the only side which has beaten India in the ongoing World Cup. The hosts had got the better of the Virat Kohli-led side by 31 runs.
On the other hand, India was expected to take on England whereas Australia was to lock horns with New Zealand. However, South Africa’s win over Australia changed the dimension of the tournament.
India is the most consistent side in the world and they would aim to continue his good form going. Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have done a fine job for the Indian team and both of them are going to hold the key. Rohit Sharma is the leading run-scorer with 647 runs whereas Bumrah has taken 17 wickets.
On the other hand, England was able to make a solid comeback after veering off the track. England had two must-win matches against India and New Zealand and the hosts were able to come up with a complete performance. The hosts have been ruthless in the last four years and they would aim to be at their best in the semifinal against Australia.
India will take on New Zealand at Manchester whereas England will lock horns with Australia at Birmingham on 11 July.
