ICC World Cup 2019: Michael Vaughan Trolls Sanjay Manjrekar
Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has recently named his playing XI of India for the semi-final fixture of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. Interestingly, among the eleven, Manjrekar has also named all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Manjrekar has had earlier referred Jadeja as the ‘bits and pieces player’. In the meantime, Michael Vaughan has taken a dig at the former Indian cricketer.
Manjrekar on Jadeja’s non-selection maintained on air that he is not a ‘big fan’ of ‘bits and pieces players. Manjrekar said on Jadeja’s possible selection in the final XI post-India’s loss on June 30 against England at Edgbaston.
The former batsman Manjrekar, who is the part of commentary panel, also maintained Jadeja is a bowler when it comes to the Test fold while adding he would like to have a spinner and batter in the ODI format.
Vaughan takes a subtle dig at Manjrekar:
Interestingly, the two changes Manjrekar made saw Team India fielding in their final group game against Sri Lanka in Leeds including Jadeja.
The left-arm orthodox spinner Jadeja has also bagged a crucial wicket of Kusal Mendis. His figures ready 1 for 40 in 10 in his quota of overs.
Pertinently, in the Lankan game, Yuzvendra Chahal has made way for Jadeja, whereas, Manjrekar has backed Jadeja in place of Dinesh Karthik.
For the semi-final game, Manjrekar backed three fast bowlers ploy.
Also, Manjrekar believes there is a need of a solitary spinner in the semi-final fixture. However, he has set the condition that if the surface is not doing much for the spinners. India will either face England or New Zealand, which also depends on Australia-South Africa result.
As soon as Manjrekar revealed his playing XI, Vaughan took an opportunity to take a dig at Manjrekar for naming Jadeja in his list.
“I see you have picked that bits and pieces cricketer!!!,” Vaughan responded Manjrekar on Twitter.
