ICC World Cup 2019: Mohammad Amir Is Fit For Selection, Confirms Captain Sarfaraz
Pakistan cricket fans are given a huge boost ahead of their Friday clash against West Indies on Friday. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has confirmed the news much to the delight of the fans.
Mohammad Amir was a doubt for the start of the tournament. Earlier reports suggested that the player was suffering from pox and could be unavailable at the beginning of World Cup. Considering, how they have been playing in recent times, this is a very welcome news for the team.
“Amir is fully fit and available for selection for tomorrow’s game,” Sarfaraz said in his pre-match press conference.
On the other hand, Pakistan are in a huge dip of form. They had lost 10 ODI games in succession prior to the World Cup 2019. But the skipper Sarfaraz tried to downplay the streak. He hopes his side will rise up to the occasion during the mega event.
“Yes, we have lost 10 matches but we have to forget that and start the World Cup journey,” he said.
The team will play their first game at Trent Bridge. The ground is known for the short boundaries and batsmen friendly conditions. The English team has managed to break the world record ODI score at this very venue.
“When we came here on the first day and asked the groundsman what is the par score he told us that it’s 480.”
300 run mark is no longer safe
With 400 mark breached on multiple occasions in the last couple of years, Sarfaraz reckons that the game has changed a lot in recent years. Previously 300 used to very good score in an ODI game. But England alone breached 440 mark at Trent Bridge twice since last World Cup.
“Cricket has changed. People used to think that 300 was a par score but it has changed. We will have different pitches in the World Cup so if a team scores 300-plus then the other team will also go for that,” he said.
Seeing their woeful and also their history in world cup. Pakistan is once again the most unpredictable team in the tournament. They are very dangerous side and they possess one of the most potent bowling attacks.
On the other hand, West Indies are also another unpredictable side. The Caribbean team are packed with match winners but only time will tell if they can gel together and exceed expectations.
“It’s good to be unpredictable so all teams are scared of you. Yes, we are unpredictable and we will take that tag, so are the West Indies,” said the skipper.
Sarfaraz believes the best way to contain a team like West Indies is by picking wickets at regular intervals. Pakistan have to play at their best if they want to qualify for knock out rounds as it is a complete round robin league at group stages.
“If you want to contain any team you have to take wickets whoever you play, so it’s important to put pressure by taking wickets.”
