ICC World Cup 2019: Mohammed Shami Boasts About his Stellar Show in England

In the later-half of the June, during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019—Team India’s strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu has praised Mohammed Shami for his fitness. And at the fag end of the same month, Shami boasts of his revival while crediting himself for the esurient. This is the parallel world owing to the cricketing aspect when one hardly set a foot wrong. And similarly, Shami is enjoying his bowling with much fizz in him.

Since the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar following his hamstring injury during India-Pakistan clash at the Old Trafford on June 16, Shami had made most of his opportunity. In both his game, Shami has bagged four-wicket hauls to make an impact early on.

Interestingly, the right-arm pacer conceded just 56 runs in his 15.1 overs. It subsequently reflects how Shami’s revival has benefitted the Men in Blue at the ODI showpiece.

Also, he had given a severe headache to the team management ahead of England tie with Bhuvneshwar Kumar ready to roll over his arm.

The 29-year-old Amroha-born Shami has improved his fitness before making life difficult for the batsmen in the quadrennial event in England and Wales.

With India unbeaten at the ICC World Cup 2019, the top-ranked ODI team has witnessed bowling brilliance from Shami. He has been a standout performer with the ball up front. He had made use of his skill-sets to trouble Afghanistan batters before picking Chris Gayle and Shai Hope, in particular in Manchester.

“I’ve always believed in my skills and ability. Whenever I’ve been given any responsibility, I’ve performed it well. I just wait for a chance to come my way so that I can perform,” ToI quoted Shami, as saying after his grand performance against the Windies in a one-sided affair.

Also, the prominent face in Indian set-up revealed his gameplan for the explosive, Gayle.

“Since we played IPL together, I have a bit of an idea about him… (you do) when you play together for some time. I knew that if I don’t allow him to chance his arms, he will get out in desperation trying to hit me,” Shami elaborated.

In a couple of years, Shami, who faced issues on the personal front, has shown great character before calling it as his satisfying show.

When asked about enduring unavoidable circumstances, Shami has backed himself while stating he is the one who had to suffer all through. He also thanked Lord for giving him potency to face all the overwhelming odds.

“Myself. I will give credit to myself because it’s me only who has faced the biggest challenges. What I went through in the past 18 months, it’s me and only me who had to suffer. So credit goes to me. I thank god for giving me the strength to face it,” Shami said.

With time, Shami has learned the trait of delivering under pressure while executing his plans to perfection. He is further following the diet and has been in good stead while showing the signs of generating more speed.
