ICC World Cup 2019: MS Dhoni Draws Flak; Sophie Choudry Came to his Rescue
Of late, MS Dhoni has been under fire for his inefficiency to change gears at the fag end of innings. In the previous game, Dhoni faced 33 deliveries for his 35 against Bangladesh at Edgbaston on Tuesday (July 2). Earlier, Dhoni has faced 31 balls for his 42 runs against England at the same venue in Birmingham. Dhoni had faced the wrath for not showing intent against the Three Lions when they were chasing.
Thus, the 31-run loss has infuriated fans who went on to criticise the 37-year-old ‘Mahi’ for failing to deliver as per their expectations. On Sunday, India were chasing a target of 337 runs when they in response managed 306 for five in 50 overs.
Other than Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav had failed to make an impact following a mixed show in the middle overs.
Apart from the fans, during a commentary former England, skipper Nasser Hussain has deemed Dhoni’s approach as ‘baffling’ to which former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly also expressed a surprise and agreed over what Hussain has maintained on air.
MSD has a significant role to play in the impending games:
On the other side, with many suggesting Dhoni announce his retirement, his die-hard fans have backed him for his tactics on a double-paced which tend to get complicated in the latter half of the game.
What actually irked many was seeing Dhoni refusing singles in England as well as Bangladesh game. However, against England Dhoni got dismissed on the third delivery of the 50th over.
Besides, the United Kingdom-based (UK) Indian singer who has also partaken in the modelling and presenting, Sophie Choudry has thrown support behind Dhoni. In her lengthy statement, Sophie has backed the former Indian skipper Dhoni by given a befitting response to the latter’s trollers.
Also, the actress Sophie has cited the reason why Jharkhand-base cricketer has denied scampering for a couple of singles.
While taking to her Twitter account, Sophie in utter disbelief on seeing people criticising Dhoni has defended her favourite cricketer. While talking about Ranchi star’s innings against the Tigers, Sophie cited that the veteran cricketer has ended up on scoring more runs then skipper Virat Kohli 35 (33).
Sophie further pointed out regarding Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s dismissal.
“Shocked by the way fans are criticising #dhoni .. If you saw the way Bhuvi lost his wicket as did Shami, you would understand why Dhoni probably wanted to keep the strike as much as possible!! Incidentally, he still managed to score more than the captain today! #justsaying,” Sophie tweeted in Dhoni’s defence.
