Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly who is known to be a great admirer of Mahendra Singh Dhoni again heaped praise on the former Indian skipper who has arguably been the greatest ever captain India has seen. During an exclusive interview with the Sportskeeda, Sourav Ganguly rated the captaincy of MS Dhoni and also spoke on how he felt when MS Dhoni asked him to lead in the final few overs of his final Test against Australia back in 2008.

When asked whether Ganguly expected Dhoni to hand him the captaincy in the last few overs of his career, Sourav Ganguly stated that it has been 10 years but he hadn’t expected it. “It’s a long time; it’s been 10 years. I did not expect it,” Sourav Ganguly said,

He further added that it is the ability of MS Dhoni to understand his oppositions which makes him a special skipper. Ganguly feels it is the freedom which he gives to the players which makes him a special skipper in any forms of the game.

“The ability to understand the opposition as well as his own players and allowing them to deliver. That is very important. Freedom is important and I think Dhoni provides that,” Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

On being asked to rate MS Dhoni as a skipper on a scale of 1-0 Ganguly said,” Very high. You don’t rate people like that (1,2,3,4…), but he’s been one of India’s greatest captains.”

MS Dhoni is regarded as one of the finest ever Indian skippers to grace the game. His form with the bat in the Indian Premier League has been nothing short of fantabulous. He will be one of an integral part of the Indian team in the 2019 World Cup. However, his back injury might be a concern for them in the quadrennial event.
