ICC World Cup 2019: MS Dhoni Played Really-Really Slow – Shoaib Akhtar
The knock of Mahendra Singh Dhoni against Afghanistan has surprised many fans out there. He played it really slow, as the team is reeling in the middle with top-order batsmen walking back to the pavilion. Though MS Dhoni managed to halt the flow of wickets, he never got into his zone to give those runs for the team.
Meanwhile, the legendary Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar felt that the knock against Afghanistan was damn slow. Further, he added that India managed to win the game with their experience, which looked like going away at one stage.
The 37-year-old produced a slow 28-run knock from 52 deliveries. He was stumped off from Rashid Khan’s delivery. The dismissal happened in the 45th over. Also, his very slow inning partnering Kedhar Jadhav kept hurting the Run Rate of the innings.
India dodged the bullet – Shoaib Akhtar
MS Dhoni’s knock was the slowest innings over the score of 25 in this World Cup so far. His 28 runs were scored at a strike rate of 53.84. The second slowest innings in this World Cup above the score of 25 is David Warner’s 48-ball 26 vs Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the former Pakistan player Shoaib Akhtar on Saturday stated that he was not happy with the way India’s top-class player MS Dhoni played against Afghanistan at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, And also, he felt that the pitch was tough to bat but Dhoni played a really slow knock.
“India played very well but not too much as they brought Afghanistan back into the game. Indian batting except Virat Kohli was really bad. They miserably failed in spite of having such a famed batting lineup. MS Dhoni played really-really slow. I can understand that there was a bit of awkward bounce in the wicket but still the amount of dots he played cost India. Indian batting was a bit exposed. But India dodged the bullet and it was a good wake-up call for them,” the Rawalpindi Express said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Dhoni and Jadhav were part of a 57-run partnership for the fifth wicket but they also played out 84 balls between themselves. Dhoni made 24 off 36 in that partnership while Jadhav scored 31 off 48 balls which slowed down India’s proceedings in the middle overs.
Would have been a number of questions:
However, in the end, it was the knock, which helped Indi to get something on the board. It was well defended by the Indian bowlers as well. He is thankful that India won the game, otherwise, a lot of false writings would have made headlines.
“I was thinking that if India were to lose that match a lot of speculations and false news would have started to flow which neither you (viewers) want nor me. There would have been a number of question marks over their performance because people are waiting out there to make headlines with different stories. I don’t want to go into the details but you know what I mean,” said Akhtar.
Well, as Shoaib Akhtar said, the partnership between MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav has been very slow. However, the partnership between them is very important as per the context of the game.
