ICC World Cup 2019: New Zealand Can Go All The Way In The Tournament – Colin Munro

Devastating New Zealand opener Colin Munro strongly believes that the Kiwis can go all the way in the upcoming ICC World Cup. England and Wales will host the cricketing extravaganza beginning from May 30 with the host taking on South Africa at the Lords.

Meanwhile, the Kiwis have always concentrated on their job without much fame. They have played decent cricket over the years under the leadership of Brendon McCullum and now Kane Williamson. However, they received a significant setback losing to Indian National Cricket team earlier this year. But Colin Munro feels that they have competed really well in the ICC events which will be in their side. Moreover, New Zealand reached the finals of the tournament in 2015 but lost to Australia. Munro points out that if they can beat some big teams in the World Cup, then they have a good chance of going all the way.

New Zealand, as a nation of just above four million people, have always punched above our weight. You can see that we have competed well in all ICC tournaments in the past and reached semi-finals and we were the finalists in the 2015 World Cup under the captaincy of Brendon McCullum. If we can go strong at some of the big teams in the 2019 World Cup, I think we can go all the way,” he told pakpassion.net.

However, Colin Munro didn’t forget to add that they need to take one game at a time in this kind of long tournaments. Besides, the southpaw noted that they are focusing on their own game and will try to put in all the effort and not concentrate on the end results.

But for now, as the cliché goes, we need to play one game at a time and when the time comes, we will put in our best effort against whatever opposition is in front of us and see where that takes us,” he added.

England and India have good chances

Many cricketing pundits have tipped India and England as the favourites to lift the trophy. The top two teams in the ODI rankings have played exceedingly well over the last few years. Colin Munro also echoed the same voice especially emphasising on India considering the support they get everywhere.

England will be a very tough side to beat in their own conditions. But to me, the side to watch for will be India as apart from their strengths, they also seem to have great support wherever they play,” he continues.

However, the southpaw who will turn out for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL feels that New Zealand have the pedigree to challenge big teams. Colin Munro believes they need to back themselves and if they can do that, Kiwis have a fair chance to lift the trophy.

New Zealand also have the ability to challenge the best teams at the World Cup. When we play in England this summer, we will have to back ourselves one-hundred percent and believe in our abilities and give it our best. If we do that in the World Cup then we could easily go all the way and win the tournament,” Munro concluded.
