The Just-In News from Justin Langer is that the young Peter Handscomb all set to get his maiden World Cup game during the second semifinal of the tournament. He is all set to play for Australia against England in place of Usman Khawaja, who ruled out from the remainder of the tournament.

Australia coach Justin Langer revealed on Tuesday that Peter Handscomb will be picked to face hosts England in their Cricket World Cup semi-final at Edgbaston. Handscomb was left out of Australia’s initial 15-man squad after the return of Steve Smith and David Warner from year-long ball-tampering bans.

With Matthew Wade in reserve after showing good form for Australia A, Maxwell could be dislodged by the former first-choice wicketkeeper. However, being the must-win clash, there is a chance for Glenn Maxwell to get one more game under his kitty as well.

“Peter Handscomb deserves it, he was really stiff not to be on this tour,” Langer said. “He was so unlucky not to be in the initial squad after what he’d done to help us get to that point. He’s in good form, he played well for Australia A, he gives us nice balance through that middle order, he’s got great temperament, he plays the spin well and he’s on top of his game. So he’ll definitely play.”

Marcus Stoinis Fit To Play:

Marcus Stoinis got through a lengthy fitness test on his problematic right side on Tuesday, bowling for 30 minutes and batting for an hour without any obvious signs of discomfort.

“He looks good. It was a very good net session actually,” coach Justin Langer said. He was very competitive. It always brings the best out in Stoinis. And also, he did a good job today and he’s fit to go.”

The champions, bidding for a sixth World Cup title, suffered a surprise 10-run loss to South Africa in their last round-robin game. It was a defeat that left them facing a resurgent England rather than out-of-form New Zealand in Manchester.

However, they would like to repeat the show, which they displayed Against Rivals in the league phase. The match is scheduled to be played on July 11th at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
