Deepak Chahar has been one of the best bowlers in the Indian domestic cricket at present. He showed his class under Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Indian Premier League and also performed exceptionally in the India-A attire. Meanwhile, he revealed that the head coach Ravi Shastri asked him to be prepared for the call-up.
The Indian cricket team have enjoyed great success at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 bagging back-to-back wins against South Africa and Australia in their two opening games.
India suffered a huge blow as Shikhar Dhawan, the star of the win against the defending champions, was ruled out of the World Cup for three weeks due to a thumb fracture. Delhi’s Rishabh Pant has been flown in as a stand-by for Dhawan.
You might get a call-up – Ravi Shastri to Deepak Chahar
Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar, in his latest interview, revealed that the selectors asked him to be prepared for the call-up if any of the current fast bowlers get injured. Deepak Chahar quoted that he got the experience of bowling in England, which made selectors go with him.
“I met everyone before leaving. I was praised by Ravi sir. He praised me and said you have done a great job. He also said – be prepared, you might get a call-up if there’s an injury,” Chahar told Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview.
“Indian selectors gave me a big duty. They considered me because of my ability to swing the ball and the experience of having already played in England. I was asked to target the Indian top order and bowl in-swingers and out-swingers to them. Our top order is exceptionally talented. Rohit (Sharma) bhai, Virat (Kohli) will do really well in England. They played swing bowling really well.
Well, Deepak Chahar has always been the best bowler in domestic cricket. He can deliver the goods in English conditions, where the ball moves in the air. As swing was his main weapon, having Deepak Chahar in the lineup will be a brilliant addition for the team.
Meanwhile, the current Indian bowling attack is delivering goods for the team without fail. Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is being used currently while the conditions will see the place of Mohammed Shami in playing XI.
