ICC World Cup 2019: Ravi Shastri Hails Rohit Sharma’s Exuberance

Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has lauded Rohit Sharma for being consistent with the bat. The right-handed opening batsman Rohit is the leading run scorer at the ICC World Cup 2019 with 647 runs in eight matches.

Rohit has shown enthusiasm in the top-flight cricket. He also maintained Rohit is one of the prolific batsmen in the One-day Internationals (ODIs).

“Rohit is one of the greatest one-day players. Whether he would have scored runs in this competition or not, just seeing his record over the years, the three double hundreds in ODIs,” Shastri told English media in Manchester.

The exquisite timer of the ball, Rohit has five tons to his name. Shastri further added that his stupendous form is no surprise and he would take it as a chief coach and that too at the ODI showpiece.

“No one has done that. He has been really consistent for India at the top. His form was no surprise. If he chooses a tournament like the World Cup to get that form in, as a coach, I will take it,” Shastri added.

Since June 5, Rohit has stepped up to deliver at the top, his imperious form as benefitted Team India to finish on the top of league stage encounters.

Interestingly, he made his appearance in the semi-final clash on the back of three consecutive hundreds. His last century came against Sri Lanka on July 8 at Headingley in Leeds.

Shastri further observed Rohit’s knock against South Africa in Southampton. In the eighth match of the World Cup, Rohit has earned Player of the Match Award. He slamming unbeaten 122 off 144 deliveries.

Shastri has deemed it as a ‘special innings’ while rating it as Rohit’s best ton on a two-paced surface.

“It was a tough wicket. It was two-paced (against South Africa). So, I thought it was a special innings from Rohit. Because, among all the ODI hundreds he has got, I thought it’s his one of his best,” Shastri concluded.

Meanwhile, in the rain-hit semi-final, New Zealand will resume their innings on Wednesday (July 10). While the rain halted play, the Black Caps scored 211 for five in 46.1 overs.
