In the loss against Pakistan, the classy Moeen Ali has been the star performer with the ball for the England Cricket Team. However, the flamboyant cricketer failed to make into the playing XI for the Bangladesh clash, which would have surprised many cricketing fans.
However, the reason behind the absence of Moeen Ali in the playing XI is that the wife of Moeen Ali is close to giving birth to her second child. Thus, Moeen Ali asked for paternity leave to stay with his wife.
Surprisingly, the England team replaced Moeen with the fast bowler Liam Plunkett rather than going with the other spinner Liam Dawson, who is waiting in his wings. However, Plunkett has been their proven performer for quite a period now.
Moeen Ali picked three wickets in the previous game:
Coming back to Ali, he hasn’t had the best of the tournament yet. Especially, with the bat, Moeen Ali looked very rusty. He failed to deliver against South Africa and bowled nicely against Pakistan. But, when it mattered the most, he failed to wield his willow for the team.
However, Eoin Morgan didn’t disclose during the toss time. He quoted that the dimensions of the ground have made them go with an extra-fast bowler.
”Moeen Ali is not dropped. His wife is close to giving birth to their second child. That’s why he is on Leave! ‘Yes, paternity leave”’
Meanwhile, the visitors Bangladesh cricket team won the toss and opted to chase on a pitch, which looked like a belter. In between, the England openers were on a roll in the middle with their flamboyant striking. The added a 128-run partnership for the first wicket before Mortaza breaking the threatening stand.
