ICC Cricket World Cup is the grandest stage for every cricketer to showcase the talent he possesses. While multiple legends have crumbled under the pressure of expectations, several youngsters have transformed into legends by doing well at this mega-event. One of the current cricketers, who is on his way to become the best is Rohit Sharma.
On Tuesday, yet another illustrious stat has been added to the hat of the Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma. He became the first Indian to smash 4 centuries in a single edition of the tournament. The knock against Bangladesh made him achieve the glorious feat, which was a distant dream for many former cricketers.
Rohit Sharma scored his 4th century of the tournament:
This is the fifth Century for Rohit Sharma in the World Cup events. The first century from his willow came against Bangladesh in ICC World Cup 2015 in the knock out stage. And, now, again, he got the century against the same team to get a blistering stat under his kitty.
In the current world cup, Rohit hit a hundred in India’s first match against South Africa. He then carried his form in the game against Pakistan and slammed a century versus the arch-rivals as well.
Next, he registered a ton in the game against England but unfortunately, India lost that match by 31 runs. This was the first instance in the Cricket World Cup that a century from Rohit Sharma’s bat had gone in vain.
Sri Lankan international cricketer and a former captain of the Sri Lankan national team, Sangakkara smashed 4 centuries in 2015 world cup, which are most for any cricketer in a single edition of the tournament.
In fact, Kumar Sangakkara is the only cricketer to score 4 centuries in a row in ODI format of the game. Coming back to Rohit Sharma, he would like to rewrite the record on his name by registering one more century, which would certainly be the most for a player in a single edition of the tournament.
During the course, Rohit Sharma also has broken the record of Sourav Ganguly, who got three centuries in a single edition. He did that in 2007 world cup.
