ICC World Cup 2019: Sanjay Bangar Might Get The Axe Following India’s Batting Failure
Everything was going right for the Indian team in ICC World Cup 2019 but then came the stunning stroke from New Zealand, which saw Virat Kohli-led side walking away from the tournament. Meanwhile, the batting coach Sanjay Bangar is under the scanner following the India’s poor Batting display against the Kiwis.
Sanjay Bangar, who has been the batting coach of India is under pressure after India’s debacle. Despite staying with the team for a long time now, Sanjay Bangar failed to settle the issues of the team in the middle-order department. The never-ending problem of the number 4 spot has been the major problem before heading into the tournament and it remained the same.
It was a constant struggle:
According to reports, the BCCI are unhappy with the way Sanjay Bangar dealt with India’s middle order. The Men in Blue crashed out the Cricket World Cup after their semifinal defeat to New Zealand at Old Trafford.
A senior BCCI official told IANS that constant meddling of the middle-order hurt the team’s challenge for the trophy, something which Bangar couldn’t solve.
“It was a constant struggle,” the official said. “We are all supportive of the players. They had a good tournament with the exception of this bad day in office (in the semi-final against New Zealand). The support staff’s processes and decision-making will surely be scrutinised. Thoroughly prior to any decision being taken about their future,” he added.
It was ordinary stuff from Sanjay Bangar:
Further, the source quoted that the statement from Sanjay Bangar was ordinary when he was questioned regarding the injury concern of Vijay Shankar. The official felt that things were not aligned in a proper way.
“Also, it was pretty ordinary stuff. When you had Bangar stating to the Indian media contingent that every player was available for selection. But Shankar was ruled out early next morning on account of an injury sustained earlier on tour. Things have been somewhat disorganised. Especially, when it comes to the assessment of performances of the support staff being made by people who were keen on having select individuals continue in their positions,” he further added.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Sanjay Bangar. For now, the support staff handed a 45-day extension post the World Cup.
